Hardware Designer
Does the idea of joining one of Sweden’s most iconic outdoor brands sounds like the next adventure you are looking for? We are seeking an experienced hardware designer who’s passionate about creating sustainable gear built for life outside. If you’re driven by a love for nature and want to be part of a team that shares that same passion, then this could be your chance!
ABOUT THE ROLE
As a Hardware Designer, you will join our Product Development team to design and develop functional, sustainable outdoor products that are aligned with Fjällräven’s design and repairability philosophy. You’ll be creating high-quality technical and casual outdoor gear — products built to perform, last, and inspire. You’ll work as part of a category team alongside a category lead, pattern maker, buyer, and garment designer. This role involves travel several times a year, so we are seeking someone who is flexible and keen on travelling.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Create original designs based on function, following the design and repairability guidelines of the Fjällräven brand.
- Develop prototypes and innovations at our workshop and technical sketches for suppliers.
- Focus on user needs through research and field testing in collaboration with our test team.
- Take part in market research, range planning, linelist creation, and design and fabric briefs in collaboration with the material & sourcing department.
- Be part of a category team working towards the brand’s financial targets.
- Define seasonal colours, ensuring new colours complement our core colours and work across product categories.
- Update technical sketches to our PLM system on both new and running styles.
- Deliver presentations to both large and small audiences at internal sales meetings, as well as at external events with customers and the press.
- Attend trade shows, company events and take part in product development trips.
WHO YOU ARE
You’re a hands-on designer with a deep understanding of how outdoor gear should function. With a passion for sustainability and a genuine love for life outside, you approach your work with curiosity, creativity, and craftsmanship. You have a sharp eye for detail and thrive in collaborative, fast-paced environments where innovation and purpose go hand in hand.
Required qualifications:
- Relevant degree in Design (Apparel, Industrial or Textile Engineering) or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience from working in Design or equivalent.
- Knowledge about the outdoor markets and products.
- Proven ability to create functional and commercial designs, as well as a profound knowledge of Hardware constructions, patterns and textiles.
- Highly skilled at delivering presentations, both spoken and visual.
- You are used to, and have a strong track record of delivering according to planned schedules and milestones in time.
- Demonstrated experience in the use of programs as: Clo 3D (or other 3D software), Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Keynote, Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Excellent English communicative skills, both written and spoken.
Furthermore, we believe you:
- Are passionate about sustainability, the outdoors and developing innovative and creative solutions.
- Are self-propelled and motivated to initiate and generate action.
- Enjoy the energy of a vibrant office environment and feel comfortable balancing multiple tasks in a fast-paced setting.
